Step #1: Selecting Bamboo

  • Choose mature bamboo stalks that are thick enough. 
  • Ensuring they are straight and free from any damage or pests.

Step #2: Cutting and Preparing the Bamboo

  • Clean the bamboo stalks
  • Cut the bamboo cane into desired lengths (typically around 20 - 25 cm).
  • To remove all of the inner pith, drill through the center of the bamboo on both sides. 
  • Remove any excess by going through again with your metal rod.
  • To get rid of the green bamboo and rough edges, take a piece of sandpaper and sand it until it's smooth. 

Step #4: Cleaning and Drying the Straws

  • Detoxify the bamboo in a boiling solution of salt water, cook, and then change the water two to three times until the water becomes more clean. 
  • Take the straws from the water and let them dry naturally

Step #5: Optional Finishing

  • Apply coconut oil or beeswax to the bamboo straws for added durability and longevity
